Stefania Bandinelli is a geriatrician who received her MD and specialty certification at theUniversity of Florence. Coordinator of the Outpatients Clinics dedicated to Frailty and mobility disability for elderly patients of the ASF, Florence,Italy. She has been involved in different research projects looking at the multidimensional factors affecting the ability to maintain balance, mobility, and autonomy in older persons. Since the development of the basic paradigm of the InCHIANTI study (funded as a contract provided by the National Institute on Aging, National Institutes of Health,USA), she played a major role in the design and conduct of the study. She is the PI of the follow up studies since 2004. In particular, she developed a number of performance‐based measures that evaluate the ability of walking in different challenging situations that mimic situations encountered in daily life. Current interest is to transfer some of the epidemiological evidence on sarcopenia and poor health markers into clinical work on chronic disease.
