The University of Bologna will participate in the project providing its competences in coordination and management, biomedical engineering, and artificial intelligence. As for coordination and management, the university will lead WP1 and dedicated personnel with expertise will assist in this role. RTD activities will exploit our expertise on real‐time and predictive algorithms for biosignal analysis, biomechanical modelling, wearable sensors and sensor fusion, mHealth applications, and artificial intelligence and data mining. The University of Bologna will lead WP3 and will contribute to WP6 and WP7 and WP9. The Universityof Bologna will also play a significant role in the dissemination activities (WP8).
The University of Bologna, created in 1088, is recognized as the oldest university in the western world, and one of the largest in Italy (with more than 100,000 enrolled students). It is one of most active Italian universities in research and technology transfer. At European level, the University was partner in more than 150 EU projects in FP5 and FP6, and is currently involved in more than 140 projects in FP7. The research groups participating in FARSEEING belong to the Department of Electronics, Computer Science and Systems (DEIS). DEIS is a research‐led institute employing about 70 professors, 40 research associates, 90 doctorate students, 40 graduated research assistants, and several visiting researchers. The Department expertise spans the whole range of electronics, communications, computer science and biomedical engineering.
